Scottish Government to help develop Ecosystem Restoration Code

Scottish Government has committed to supporting the development of an Ecosystem Restoration Code (ERC) for Scotland as a high-integrity market mechanism for attracting responsible private investment into nature restoration and biodiversity projects.

ScotGov and NatureScot are currently working on a new partnership initiative to deliver this commitment.

ScotGov has today published an Ecosystem Restoration Code (ERC) Engagement Paper. This describes the rationale for the new ERC and sets out our baseline understanding of what is likely to be required for new nature/biodiversity markets in Scotland in terms of:

  • High integrity
  • Supply-side – land managers and landowners
  • Demand-side – investors and buyers
  • Alignment with SG policy and funding

ScotGov has also published a survey where stakeholders can express their views and preferences on the ERC and the development of new nature/biodiversity markets for Scotland.

A series of engagement workshops will take place during May and June. If you would like to take part you can contact [email protected] specifying which of the above themes (if any) you would like to comment on.
