New partnership aims to transform biodiversity measures in the hospitality

The World Sustainable Hospitality Alliance has announced a partnership with the International Platform for Insetting (IPI). The WSHA says that the collaboration aims to revolutionise the hospitality sector by enhancing knowledge sharing, harmonising sustainability measurements, and accelerating impactful changes in communities and businesses worldwide.

The Alliance is a coalition of over 100 members and partners dedicated to addressing critical challenges facing Earth and its inhabitants. By joining forces with the IPI, which the WSHA says is known for its commitment to climate action within global value chains, the Alliance is poised to drive transformative initiatives that foster collective climate action in the hospitality industry.

Glenn Mandziuk, CEO of the World Sustainable Hospitality Alliance, said, “IPI’s impressive track record with global brands in advancing Net Positive goals aligns perfectly with our mission. Our collaboration will empower our members with invaluable insights, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing that is essential for creating resilient business models in our industry.”

Through this partnership, the Alliance says it has emphasised its commitment to industry training and the acceleration of Net Positive Hospitality. IPI specialises in implementing scalable, nature-based solutions that reduce Scope 3 emissions while delivering positive social and environmental impacts. By integrating insetting practices, hospitality businesses can not only meet ambitious climate goals but also cultivate resilient and regenerative models that contribute to biodiversity restoration.

Jamil Benabdallah, Executive Director of the International Platform for Insetting, said, “Together, we will aim to embed insetting into hospitality operations, enabling businesses to reduce their environmental footprint and foster positive social impact throughout their value chains. Our combined efforts will support the hospitality sector in becoming a leader in sustainable and regenerative practices.”

This partnership marks a significant step towards harmonising sustainability efforts across the hospitality industry and exemplifies a shared commitment to creating a more responsible and sustainable future.

The World Sustainable Hospitality Alliance is working to deliver:

Supply chain resilience
Insetting practices help build a more resilient and sustainable food supply chain by collaborating with suppliers to implement sustainable agricultural practices. This ensures a stable supply of commodities, mitigates climate-related risks, and strengthens partnerships with key suppliers.

Environmental impact reduction
Insetting directly addresses Scope 3 emissions, which are often the largest contributor to a company’s carbon footprint. By promoting regenerative agricultural practices, it reduces greenhouse gas emissions and enhances biodiversity in sourcing regions.

Quality and freshness
Insetting enables companies to prioritize local and sustainable food systems, leading to higher quality and fresher ingredients. This approach aligns with growing consumer demand for locally sourced and sustainable menu options.

Cost efficiency
While there may be upfront investment, insetting can generate long-term cost savings. Local sourcing reduces transportation costs, and sustainable farming practices often improve yield and price stability through strong supplier relationships.

Regulatory compliance
As environmental regulations become stricter, insetting can help hospitality companies stay ahead of compliance requirements. By proactively addressing sustainability within their supply chains, companies can avoid potential penalties, align with global sustainability goals, and position themselves as leaders in sustainable hospitality.

Community impact
By supporting local economies and farmers, insetting contributes to rural development and fosters goodwill. This approach creates positive community engagement and reinforces the company’s role as a responsible corporate citizen.
