Tilhill Forestry, the UK sustainable forestry and timber harvesting company, has opened applications for its industry-leading, ICF-accredited graduate programme, now in its 18th year.
The programme is seeking graduates with drive, passion and enthusiasm to take up an incredible opportunity to actively kickstart and grow their career within the forestry sector.
Tilhill Forestry is part of BSW Group, the largest integrated timber and forestry business in the UK, and a member of binderholz, Europe’s leading timber processing operation.
These links bring with them unique opportunities for graduates to experience all aspects of the supply chain, from work experience at Maelor Forest Nurseries, who market 35 million saplings a year, to insightful visits at BSW Timber sawmills, who supply key industries across the UK.
The comprehensive programme predominantly provides hands-on experience in woodland creation, forest management and timber harvesting, as well as other learnings.
Since the inception of the programme in 2006, Tilhill has taken on 123 graduates, with more than a quarter of the company’s current total workforce having come through the scheme.
Passionate individuals in forestry – or related fields such as land management or environmental studies – are encouraged to apply for Tilhill Forestry’s three-year graduate programme via the Tilhill website.
Accepted candidates will be placed in an office or business stream where they will gain comprehensive knowledge of the industry by shadowing seasoned professionals. With placements available throughout the UK, graduate trainees will receive guidance and support from an experienced manager throughout their training period.
Stuart Pearson, Business Development Director at Tilhill Forestry said, “The graduate programme provides opportunities to learn which are practical, hands on, and provide a real view into working in the industry, with mentoring from senior foresters and the wider team.
“I progressed from Forest Manager to Director and I still take great pleasure in being involved in the Unlocking Potential scheme, part of the programme which encourages our graduates to present ideas that can help shape the future of Tilhill Forestry.”
Based across the UK with offices from Devon to Inverness, Tilhill Forestry employs approximately 240 people. Forestry Director Harry Stevens said, “We aim to offer all our employees a friendly and challenging work environment with exciting personal and career development opportunities – this has only expanded since becoming a part of BSW Group.
“We understand that our staff, the work they do and the important relationships they build, are key to Tilhill Forestry’s success. We must continue to nurture our employees if they business is to grow. Our graduates, and this graduate programme, are central to this.”
