Breakdown of figures for English farming and nature schemes

Report and table by Julia Aglionby, Professor of Practice, University of Cumbria

Defra has issued more details in the breakdown of the farming and countryside budget through to 2028/29 in a blog today following last week’s Spending Review. I’ve updated my figures from last week.

  • Delinked payments will be deminimus and the same for both 2026/27 and 2027/28. Each SBI will see 98% reduction on their first £30,000 of BPS i.e. down to a maximum of £600 per annum. 100% reduction after £30K.
  • The nature schemes budget is slightly higher at £450 million and covers Nature for Climate and Biodiversity Targets Programme plus Tree Planting and Peatlands.
  • ELM budget will be pretty much the same for all 3 years (£1.95 billion increasing to £2 billion
